Still More Good News
Yet another bit of good news.
Dad’s surgeon came in midafternoon — after dad had been sitting up for almost 2 hours (I was wanting the nurse to get him back to bed before the surgeon arrived. We talked about likely discharging him to rehab TOMORROW.
Then the surgeon shot us a curve ball. He mentioned that it would be good for dad to get up and around — so I asked him if dad could take a wheelchair ride, maybe down to the lobby, and he agreed.
So, a tired dad got transferred to a wheelchair, unhooked from his monitor, unhooked from his feeding tube, and dad and I took a trip. First time in 7 weeks that dad has seen any of ths hospital in anything other than a horizontal vantage point. We headed straight to the elevator, down to the lobby, over to the windows where he got chilled and said, “time to go back now.” We took the long trip back to the nursing station and dad was tired by the time we got back.
Good sound sleep tonight I think. And even dad said “had a busy day.”
Arbors of Sylvania is looking to make the transfer sometime betwen 1 – 3 pm tomorrow if all stays “GO.” They have a bed and are looking forward to dad being there. I’m comfortable with the care he’ll get there — but will continue to advocate for him daily. In the meantime — we’re just happy.
Love to all.

Discharge Talk
Back from his port removal he’s really tired.
He got all cleaned up early (night shift did it this morning. ) I got him shaved and Camille came in to do her e-stim. He did let her work with him yesterday, and she’s working on him now. the PT OT gals will be here to harass him soon. No rest for the wicked as they say.
On a critical level he isn’t wanting to try things. Up until now he has been doing what people ask of him. The last few days he has been refusing to cooperate with the therapy. Or to limit how much he cooperates. Is it because he has NO eneregy? Or a conscious (though sleepy) choice? I dont know. Right now it’s as if he has started making physical progress only to reach a mental wall that’s hard for him to get past.
PT & OT are due in later. He’s so tired today I’m not sure how much luck they will have with him.

More Good News today
They took him down to dialysis early ths morning, without a doctors order, but on the basis of bloodwork.
After evaluation by Dr. Flickinger the decision was taken to declare him out of renal failure and ready to have the Q-tap removed.
As I write this he is in Interventional Radiology having his dialysis port removed. Peg and I are hoping that the decision wasn’t taken too quickly — but heck…. these guys are supposed to know what they are doing! So, A big Thumbs Up for Frank.
I had a call from Arbors about his release from the hospital to them. Dana sounds like a real nice person, every time I talk with her she makes a positive impression.– so behind the scenes things are moving forward.
